Poll: How Charitable Are You Feeling?

The government’s annual program to raise money for charities, the Combined Federal Campaign, starts Sept. 1 and runs through Dec. 15. Federal employees traditionally have been very generous with their donations; $7 billion has been raised for good causes since the CFC’s creation in 1961.

But a two-year federal pay freeze, possible health care premium hikes, threats to shrink the government workforce and proposals to increase the amount feds contribute to their pensions could be taking a toll on federal employees’ goodwill. “No raise for at least three years; no budget passed; threats of furloughs and RIFs: do the clowns in DC really think that federal employees are going to donate to their pet charities?” asked one reader in response to Thursday’s story on the CFC.
