December 23, 2010The Senate on Wednesday night cleared Gene Dodaro to serve as comptroller general, a position he had held on an acting basis since March 2008.
On Nov. 30, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee had unanimously approved his nomination to permanently head the Government Accountability Office.
Dodaro has worked at GAO for more than 30 years, beginning as an entry-level auditor and moving up to head the accounting and information management division. For nine years, he served as the agency's chief operating officer, GAO's No. 2 leadership position.
The comptroller general serves a nonrenewable 15-year term.
