Federal offices in the Washington, D.C. area are closed Tuesday, the Office of Personnel Management announced

The move came as a snowstorm moved in to the Washington area. Forecasts predicted five to eight inches of snow would fall during the day.

Non-emergency employees would be granted excused absence for the day, OPM announced, unless they were required to telework, on official travel outside the Washington area, on leave without pay status, or on an alternative work schedule day off.

"Emergency and telework-ready employees required to work must follow their agency's policies, including written telework agreements," OPM said..

Correction: The original version of this article said agencies woud be closed Monday.
