Senator Collins is being ridiculous. Ralph Borras is a stellar nominee, having worked in similar positions at Commerce and GSA, as well as senior positions in the private sector. She needs to realize that private sector experience counts for as much as federal experience. Further, two isolated tax issues, which were discovered by his accountant, should not an indictment on Mr. Borras' capabiity to perform this job.
This inane behavior by Congress is one of the reasons why good people avoid public service. Confirm this guy and let's move on.

Experience? Since when does experience count for anything? Look what's sitting in the White House!

Sen. Collins wants to make a point against the Administration's nominees with tax problems. At least in this case, he took care of it before this Administration was even elected. Congress doesn't understand the boroad federal, and local government managment experience this guy has.

I've retired from the IRS. There are many reasons people end up owing the IRS. Less then .05% do it deliberately. How many people like Collins do their own taxes? How many people like Collins understand all of the Internal Code. Honest mistakes interpreting the Code happen. The majority of Americans hire someone to prepare their taxes even simple returns. These people are not tax cheats or criminals. Let's stop this charade about nominees not being qualified because somewhere in their past they happen to have owed taxes. People who take the "high moral ground" usually have something they don't want anyone to know about.

I wish Congress would get over itself. This nomination has been floating around for a few months now.
I, for one, am just happy that this Borras guy has at least some Federal sector experience. So many political appointees don't and the results can be disastrous.
Whatever tax debt he had has been paid. It's time to move on!
