I work for 'Office of Child Support Enforcment' which falls up under 'Dept of Finance Adm' in the state of Arkansas. Most child support agencies in other states fall under social services so they are qualified for student loan reminbursement. I do not think it is right that my job does not qualify. I'am collecting money for the state to repay 'Dept of Human Services' for TEA/TANF benefits. We collect money for the care of children you would think this would classify as child service.

You have to make 120 payments ON-Time, after October 2007. Service in the military counts as well. Any federal servant qualifies. Remember, this was a BUSH initiative, no a BO plan. See, us Republicans are good for something!

Would really be nice if they would take into account students with commerical loans. If I serve my country (Military and now civilian Federal Service), why shouldn't my debt loans count also?

I was a career employee for the Fed Gov for 16 years and I now work for the State of CA. Will I be able to take advantage? Will this benefit trickle down to State government employees?

Sounds like a great program. My only wish is that the law would have allowed prior federal service count towards the 10 year requirement. I have been with the govt since the end of 01, so if they allowed that then I would only have two years to go until the loans were forgiven. Either way, I should be able to take some advantage of it in 2017, when it finally kicks in, as I have no intention of leaving govt service.

Do interns and/or residents qualify for this great program if they work in non-profit hospitals?
Thank-you!

Yes, a "graduation gift" that comes at the expense of U.S. taxpayers, and blatantly discriminates in favor those going into government jobs as opposed to the private sector, which is the nation's major economic driver and job creation engine. The law is also designed to change the playing field and drive private lenders out of the student loan program. Only inside the Beltway and / or with the liberal "usual suspects" would this be regarded as legislation to be celebrated.
