You can have all the change of commands you want, but clearly, when the leadership of any organization at the very highest level shirks its duties as per Deepwater wasting taxpayer funds, it will take MANY years for the public to ever trust the current leadership of the Coast Guard. Be truthful, ethical, honest and hardworking and tell the truth this time newbie.

esw1927, you almost hit the nail on the head. As one of those initial "G-A" folks who was there when "Deep-Kimshee" (as we called it back then) was started, what everyone is seeing now is truly a travesty and scar on the USCG. There were alot of folks back then that refused to listen to the problems associated with the project from its inception. Tsk, tsk...now comes the clean up and more fund$ to "try" and salvage something.

It's doubtful they will ever get there reputation back. Worked for USCG for 5 years and it was known from the outset that this was going to end up this way. It all ties back to one individual who inspite of numerous individuals identifying the problems didn't want to hear it because it Deepwater was their baby.

This is an excellent decision by the Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Thad Allen. While contractor oversight support for a project of this size can be valuable, the primary responsibilty for spending the taxpayers dollars wisely should rests with the leadership at the U.S. Coast Guard. Rear Adm. Ronald Rábago is an outstanding choice for this leadership role and his experience and credentials are second to none. Concratulations on a wise choice.
