The Defense Supplemental Bill is just that for defense. The idea of having 'global bailout' as a rider to ensure passage is preposterous. I bitterly resent my hard earned dollars going to the IMF for countries that per capita growth has slowed with an increase in debts resulting in a downward spiral of poverty and social disintegration. Furthermore, cancellation of debts owed to the US by many foreign entities has been established in the hopes countries would 'tighten their belts' and initiate sound economic policies. However, due to preliterate governing bodies heading many of these countries, economies will not improve no matter how much funding is provided and they will continually be in debt resulting in throwing good money after bad. Furthermore, the infrastructure of these countries will not change since much of the money donated is acquired by those in power for gain, or by taking advantage by dishonest, unfair, or illegal means through the abuse of their power. Just when are all these bailouts going to cease? We've evidenced abuses continually and yet we still bail out failing companies and countries in hopes of establishing sound economies. If there were riders attached to the DSB, it should have addressed domestic issues rather than foreign. Many Americans are facing financial hardship and require funds to improve their circumstances and future prospects in order to rebound and stabilize their circumstances. Bottomline, I would rather money be placed in a fund of this type rather than to foreign countries who have no use for Americans or America as a whole.

It seems to me that when Bush was in office, they put TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH into their bill. If a democrat voted against it on those grounds, he or she was a traitor. How do they reconcile that, except for not reconciling anything?

The Defense supplemental bill should not be used as a shield to generate a "global bailout" line of credit for the International Monetary Fund. As an American citizen and taxpayer, I am strongly opposed to bailouts of any kind. We should not be propping up businesses, individuals, or countries that have made poor choices that resulted in financial problems. I work hard for my salary, I pay my taxes, I don't purchase things that I cannot afford, and I pay my bills on time. I should not have to pay the bills of others, especially those who make poor decisions. The free market should be allowed to run its course so the strong can continue to thrive and the weak can learn from their mistakes and hopefully, redefine themselves in a way that creates growth.
I have written to my Senators, strongly urging them to oppose the IMF line of credit language currently in the supplemental bill. Intelligent Americans should oppose all attempts to redistribute our hard earned resources/wealth to those unwilling to earn it themselves. Redistribution of wealth eliminates incentive to be productive and take responsibility.
