"Worthwhile" is always in the eye of the beholder. To all elected officials "worthwhile" means tax money spent in their home territories. Tax money is never "saved" - if you want to spend less taxes you need to collect less taxes. But if you collected less taxes, where would those government employees, contractors, and government suppliers work? Where would the students graduating from all the trade schools and colleges work? FDR's New Deal is alive and well.

Yeah........ it will sure be great when these Major Industrial Corporations start laying off thousands of US workers, .... that will sure help the economy.........so what is Obama and McCain going to do with all these unemployed aerospace workers, engineers, machinists, scientists.... .... Get them jobs @ McDonalds.......... That sure will help the economy.... Funny how everybody ALWAYS seem to forget... these Corporations DO employ US workers...

It'll all get spent just the same. It either goes to contractors or to Feds. +/- both ways. At least with contractors the government has the "option" to cancel their programs when no longer needed or if performance targets aren't met (yes, it happens). Maybe we should care less about who gets the money and more about ensuring accountability with all holders of taxpayer funds; federal employees and contractors alike.

I can't wait to see what "worthwhile" expeditures Obama has in mind. Let's see; more money to teachers unions = less to the kids, more money to pet projects = less to social security. All in all, less for us to keep, period.

Oh no! Say it's not so, the contracting gravy train may start drying up! You mean taxpayers may actually have money coming into the treasury for worthwhile expenditures. But, I thought government contracting saved the taxpayers billions. And our national debt and government spending has increased how much in the last seven years?
