I am a civil service employee call to active duty as a reservist in support of Iraq War. My Mandatory Retirement Date is approximately 21 days after the end of my orders and receiving a DD214. I will be retired from the military before the redeposit money can be calculated and deposited in the civil service retirement fund. What can I do?

How accurate is the TSP calculator that is offered in the TSP web page? I do understand that it is pretty much up to the user to provide the correct info, but i was just wondering about the validity this and if there are any other reliable calculators available for us. Thanks for all your valuable info. mg

I currently have 27 1/2 years CSRS with the AF-age 55. Prior to that I had worked four years in a Non-Appropriated position here at Keesler(NAF, 1976-1980). What are my options to retire this year and how would that affect my retirement pay?

Service Academy grads beware! Federal law generally prohibits military retirees from receiving civil service credit because time in Federal service may only count towards one retirement system. There is an exception, however, where the military service was not used in the calculation of military retired pay. This currently only affects Service Academy graduates who retired from the military and then went into the civil service. OPM has asked Congress to change this law, so that Academy grads cannot make a military deposit and receive credit for this time. To review the proposal, search OPM's website with the term "Federal Retirement Improvements Act of 2007." Note, the proposal mistates the current state of the law.

In viewing retirement under CSRS, isn't it true one's high three and accumulated sick leave is not the total way to compute one's annuity under CSRS? Specifically, when one retires, the annuity will also include deductions that no longer continue, including contributions for Federal Retirement, and the TSP. There are other smaller ones (like the CFC) but those two items alone constitute a significant amount of money for many Federal employees. I am just noting that the CSRS retirement annuity will consist of the (1) high three average;(2)the sick leave accumulated; and (3)monies from deductions that will not follow one into retirement. I believe this last component can be a significant amount of money, and provides a more complete financial picture for those contemplating retirement.

If you are under CSRS can an employee with 41 years of service and 1l months of sick leave receive 80 percent of the high-three in retirement? Can the 11 months of sick leave be counted as creditable service?

I'm in the CSRS Offset system due to a break in service from 10/89 to 6/92. At that time, I took the withdrawal and did not pay it back when I returned to federal service. In computing my retirement benefit, will my previous 8 years be counted or do I need to pay it back ? I've read conflicting information and am not sure whether to go ahead and pay it back now. Thank you.

I hit the CSRS 41 + 11 magic number last Christmas Day. As I understand it, any CSRS retirement deductions from my pay starting with the first pay day in January 2008 will eventually be refunded, but that is supposed to be together with any accrued interest on such excess deductions. However, you make no mention of such interest in your discussion. Is the interest rate used for this purpose the same as the one that changes annually, for example, that applied to contributions made to the CSRS Voluntary Contributions Program, or is it based on something else? Thanks.
