  The erosion of civil liberties, massive budgetary deficits, incompetent administration, stagflation and a costly war with no prospect for a favorable outcome all weigh down the Republicans.

  The Republican Party have clearly demonstrated both a failure to grasp the state of the world as it really is and an inability to govern effectively.

  It is striking that John McCain's personal connection with the voters is strong enough to overcome the general distaste for the GOP and his own palpable unsuitability for the job as Chief Executive.

  The policies that McCain has advocated for during the years he has been in the Senate have contributed to the debacles in energy policy, foreign trade, budgetary profligacy and ineffective administration.

  In his Senate years it is hard to point to a single piece of legislation or oversight in which McCain has not protected the status quo and impeded the effective governance of America.

  From the abu Gharib hearings which resulted in the prosecution of the lowly, to election reform, McCain's legislative history is one of pandering to the rich and protecting the powers that be at the expense of ordinary people.
