  my husband died on sept 5, 2009 and i would like to know if i going to get any social security from him. i am 75 years and my husband was 81 years old when he passed away. we had been married for 30 years. please help me if possible.

  I am a 53 year old widow of a veteran. He passed away in March of this year from lymphnoma. He was collecting disability and they say I ca not collect until I am 60. How am I to survive. Going from two incomes to one.

  My husband died a year ago, all four kids get survivorsbenefits. my oldest will be 18 soon. when he stops receiving check at 18 witll theother childrens checks increase or stay the same. how come i was told i cannot get a check. i am 42 have not worked in over four years due to illnesses and taking care f an autistic child

  my husband was killed a year ago and there was not much life insurance. There are no jobs in my area which I live. I have not worked since 1991. My husband was self employed and I worked with him as a helper. I am 56 and have been told can not draw on my husband until I am 60. Is there no help for me while I try to find work.

  I am 54 and disabled and a widow right now I collect my ssi and a certain percentage of my deceased husband. If I remarry can I contiue to collect my husbands ssi. I was married for 30years and my ssi is very little as i was a stay at home mom.

  I have been receiving bnefits from the Veterans Administration for quite awhile now, even having to appeal when they once took away 50% of my total of 60%. I won that case, and am involved in another appeal.

  My 65th birthday is arriving on the 4th of July, 2009 (have a blast) and I am wondering if the money I am receiving stays the same, or will it go higher or lower. And, are there any other way I can add to my income with other options offered by Social Security Disability or the Veterans Administration. When I die, if my wife would not make as much as me on her Social Security Check, could she choose mind to live off of? Please keep it simple, because I am a simple person. Thank you. Dave

  I took a widower's pension at age 65 and then at age 70 I started drawing on my own pension. Can I switch back to a widower's pension at age 73 as I think it would be more income to me.

  I am living with my boyfriend who has been drawing his social security since may 2008. We are expecting a child in February 2009. Will this child be entitled to 1/2 of his benefits when she is born? Also if we get married January 2009 will I be entitled to any benefits at all? Pease help as all of this is very confusing.   I was told that I may be able to draw on my deceased ex-husband's social security. I am 67, drawing on my own earnings. I was married 22 years, was a stay at home mom and had no earnings to speak of all those years. I have worked since the divorce. I have remarried, now 24 years, however my present husband is too young to draw benefits. My previous husband did re-marry. Let me know if I am qualified. Thank you.

  I am a widow that still works. I was told that even though I work I can draw widows benefits at age 60 until I am 62. WHen I went to apply they told me that I make too much money. I was under the impression that I could draw benefits even thought I worked.

  Many of you who have commented above have good case examples. My advice to you is, if you are close to receiving benefits (due to age), go to your local SS office and have them work it out for you. I might caution all that receiving any benefit before your normal retirement age (65-67) will severely impair your financial stability for the rest of your life. It is not recommended unless you will be receiving some other source of income later in life. I realize some of you are destitute, but for every year you survive without the benefits (up to 65-67) you gain a HUGE increase in SS benefits.

  I have been a widow for 14 years and not remarried. I have received a monthly income from PERA (state of MN) as my husband was a firefighter with a city paid department. I turned 60 this past May and would like to know if I am eligible for his social security, he did work at least 10 years although small amount of SS pmnts. I do not want to draw my SS benefit until at least age 65. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you

  I am a retired school teacher, age 59, and a widower. My wife (born 9/20/1946) died in 1997 and I remain unmarried. I have been told that when I reach age 60, I would be eligible to receive a portion of my wife's social security benefit and STILL BE ELIGIBLE for my own at age 66. Since my wife worked as a bank teller for only 20 years (1964 to 1984), the amount available to me would be very small. If I am entitled to some portion of my wife's benefit, I could use it. HOWEVER, I do not, in any way, want this choice to jeopardize my eligibly to receive my full benefit at age 66 (or partial at age 62). Please give me your opinion or put me in contact with someone who could tell me what my options are.

My ex-husband has full SS quarters but has retired under CSRS and does not receive much SS under current laws. Is the chance to increase my SS from his when I retire based on what he receives now or his record of earning?

  What happens when your child turns 16 and your spouse is no longer entitled to the spouse benefits?So does that mean 25% all the family will get from disability benefits. Child gets 25% and spouse 25%.Is the 25% taken away or how does that work. Confused.
