I do believe the LOW COST small drones and UVA's are an excellent idea. This would be a very low cost, hightly effective way to monitor the US/MEXICO borders for drug smugglers, and slso for illegal's attempt- into to cross INTO the U.S. Why do WE THE PEOPLE not hear of this cost effective, highly needed use of UVA's and drones on the T.V. news such as CNN, ABC, etc.? What a way to go! As for the FAA, have the planes fly around a zone in patrolled areas within a certain mile radius. Ten years, it is an absolute shame that our selected public servents (Congress and Senate) have such other menial things to debate. As for use in IRAQ, this is a wonderful thing, and save lives of our military personnel, and saves the tax payers money.

Anyone who lives near an airport or military facility know that these UAV's and the retrofitted unmanned full size planes have been in use for quite a while. We can hear and see them all through the night. The FAA has trouble keeping regular air traffic safe and in correct flight patterns. Like so many other poorly planned initiatives, there appears to be no funding or staff for the added air traffic control work.

Science is advancing. Drones have a great potential for helping first responders.
The FAA has a valid concern. These are aircraft. They could be a hazard to low flying manned craft. Got to work it out.

If it wasn't already bad enough having BIG BROTHER watching from his cameras on every corner, now he will be spying from above! We ought to just add camera installation to all building codes, for safety purposes!
Just who will be operating all of these wonderful, high tech drones? Will civilian companies be allowed to have their own to watch for the activities of their employees (like truckers, utility workers, etc...)?
