Perhaps 3.9 isn't enough but it's better than the 3.4! Also, talking about how it's better to be in the service then out in the civilian world (who is jobless), they are also doing a drawdown in the services. No longer allowing you to retire at the previous lengths. Not letting you stay in doing your current job (Force converting or get out). It's not always greener on the other side.. As a service member, I appreciate any raise I and my brothers and sisters get, would my family benefit from a larger raise? Sure! But you can't blame congress or the President, until the American people demand more, it is what it is.
Just my 3.9 cents.

Dan, Having been a troop, and my body pretty well messed up and now serving as a "Feather Merchant" I would gladly let the troops have a raise instead of getting one myself. It is true and this is sad, that the "Feather Merchants" are the only voice the troops really have. I knew this when I was in the Army, and it is still very true now. Perhaps you could try model car building, or get a pet, as these things may help with your anger issues.

Maybe you should climb back into your foxhole before someone shoots you. Without the CS legions you don't get paid bozo.

Huh? Maybe I'm not getting something ...
Congress gives the President's recommend PLUS .4% more and all the complaints are directed to Congress. WHAT THE ___?
It's like we get bombed by Al Quaeda and we go kick Iraq's butt all ever again. No wonder I've been confused these past 5 years.
If you're gonna shoot the messenger, aim for the right dude!!

It may not be what the troops deserve but it is recognition for their efforts. The tragedy would be to reward the landcrabs and feather merchants with a comparable raise. No raise would be in order for the career CS

Inflation is actually between 8 and 11 percent. Thanks Congress, you have contributed to our continued demise. The raise covers less than half the inflation which compounded over time will continue to drag our real earnings down. Inflation is the tax that just keeps on taking and Congress will keep on playing stupid while the Fed prints dollars without end. Inflation benefits the largest debtor - the U.S. Government. It is much easier to make the payments with a cheaper dollar when all you need to do is crank up the press and disengage your mind. So, thank you so much Congress for your generosity and may you all find new work next year.

Thanks CONGRESS! we know the payraise or lack there of will be blamed on Bush anyway.
What pay raise did you give yourselves? Also, what new Pay for Performance system have you implemented for yourselves? You know the one you approved to help rid government of NON-Performers? Too close for comfort?
How about some of you get a rifle and report for duty the way so many others of us have done?

Nick, be thankful the military will receive a 3.9% raise. There have been large raises and other increases in compensation for our military during the Clinton-Bush Years. Many private sector workers are losing their jobs due to the recession. The President and Congress must weigh the needs of the military for a raise with other government needs.

WoW a whole 3.9 % What can they buy now? 1 gallon of gas. 1 package of Oreo cookies. take the family out out for dollar hamburgers.
They are dying and congress gives them 3.9 %.
CEO's have golden parachutes for millions and they screw up the economy. CEO's steal from the pension funds and and destroy companies ie. Enron, they keep their ill gotten gains and spend a short time in prison, our soldiers and sailors and marines get 3.9 %.
I would like to thank this congress for their generosity and their humanity to these brave men and women that serve in a VOLUNTARY military service. They could have stayed home and enjoyed life not give up their lives, families and freinds so that they could get 3.9 %.
