What comes to mind is CATCH22 the movie. A few are discharged/dismissed for poor performance and because they didn't get a piece of the action are telling tails of woe. Lucky they didn't die by IED the cowards. Help HIM...

No big deal? Stealing from the US government and subsequently the taxpayers is no big deal? It may be the local norm or not, but whatever the local standards may be perhaps weterners should utilize "Western" moral standards or emigrate to said country and be a native. That said, there are noble and ignoble persons everywhere, we can chose which we want to emulate. Since when has someone else doing something that isn't morally correct a reason for another persons behavior--sheep over the cliff? Lets all be barbaric because some people are? As a human being it is NOT mandatory to sink to lowest moral denominator around you.

I am assuming that no one is suprised. Greed is on of the human trait. Sad.
Now can we not use the greedy contractors? Powerfull lobby! With sadness I predict no change.

No big deal really. This type of activity, while morally wrong by Western standards, is pretty much accepted practice in many countries such as Iraq. It sounds like some of the contractors are simply "going native." There is a good reason why Baghdad has a reputation as a "den of thieves." This activity is the norm there, rather than the exception.

At some point, as American's we will have to ask ourselves, "How much longer are we going to pay premium prices for ineffective contracts and outright abuses by these criminals?". Is that an unreasonable question for taxpayers to ask?

I would like to see what percentage of the DoD budget being spent for the war in Iraq is going for in country contracts over there. When the nightly news trumpets the costs of the war this number should be broken out, I bet it would change a lot of people's perception of the DoD and privatization.
