Return to Article: Public service group to develop new resources for federal interns

I just happen to be a high quality college graduate hired through a federal intern program. I also just happen to have served in the U.S. military for 6.5 years. All together, I have been employed by the federal government for a total of 9.5 years. Now, I may not have 20+ years of salt on me, but I have been around long enough to say I have the utmost respect for the outstanding individuals selected for these federal intern programs and the results the programs garner. Instead of cynical and terribly misguided speculation, a little research on the topic might change your perspectives, though I won't hold my breath. In short, the comments on this post, while undoubtedly sincere, are in very poor taste.

It may be well laundered, but the money money for this program STILL comes from the federal government. Who would honestly believe that any high quality college graduate would want to work for the federal government in an intern program? I think it will appeal to those who plan to ascend through the ranks by using office politics rather than by demonstrating technical skills.
It's just recruiting more of what has made the government into the mess that it is. Respect needs to be earned. I mean respect for the federal government that is.

Government doesn't need more inexperienced people looking for a career. Government does need mid-level and senior execs from the private sector who come for a 3-5 year stint.
