At least E-Verify is able to stop the use of most fake EADs and PRCs (green cards)- and has done so. As Randy said, illegal immigrants are not faking those documents anymore. Of course, for DHS to incorporate driver's license photos into E-Verify, States have to grant DHS the authority and access to that information. (DHS owns the PRC and EAD photos.) I think E-Verify is doing a lot with the tools it has been given.

In reference to Staighttalk's comments, you only get an E-Verify photo when an ALIEN (person with DHS issued documents)is entered into the system. Illegals don't use fake green cards anymore. The illegal immigrant buys/rents/steals a package of genuine US birth certificate and SS card, applies for and receives a state ID/DL, presents as List B&C document for Form I-9. The employer enters it and the illegal immigrant/identity thief is HIRED. I stand by my earlier comments. E-Verify DOES NOT detect ID theft.

When the employee presents the ID to the employer, the employer should make sure the picture on the ID is the same as the person in front of them. When the employer types the ID information into E-Verify, a picture shows up on the screen that should match the one on the ID card. While there are still ways to beat the system, E-Verify makes it much harder for illegal immigrants than it used to be. Mostly, E-Verify is getting a bad rap from people who have bad or incomplete information.

I don't expect anything to come out of congress this year. Wonder if we can get them to stay home that way they can't do any damage

In reference to reauthorizing E-Verify, there is not much point in reauthorization if DHS doesn't fix it first. It DOES NOT detect ID theft, ie; when a person utilizes a name and SSN that relates to that name, it clears as employment authorized. There are millions of illegal aliens gaining employment with the blessing of E-Verify. As a retired ICE agent working as a consultant, I see it all the time.
