As with any new system, there are growing pains involved. This system will work given time. There is enormous behind the scenes work required to make things work properly. Give OPM some time to do what they need to do.

I sent in my paperwork for retirement November 1, 2007> My retirement date was 2 Feb 2008.
I received a letter 22 Nov 07 saying it looked like my papers were in order.
I made numerous phone calls during Jan 08 as I had not heard anything else and I was told they were way behind and backlogged. Everyone was working overtime every night and every weekend........
So I walked out the door on my retirement date with no one knowing I retired...
I received a phone call which was followed up by a letter Feb 13th.
Meanwhile I am getting bills from my health insurance providers wanting to know where their money is.. I can't pay them, I haven't been paid.. I didn't get a check until 1 Apr 08 and I got a letter from opm a few days before 1 Apr congratulating me on my retirement but nothing about when my check would come or a breakdown of deductions etc.
This is even worse than I expected.....
Of course not to mention, CPO's all are gone and when I wanted to retire I was pointed to a website by the personnel section of my unit and was on my own to download and figure out how to fill them out correctly.....
I still don't know anything about my retirement checks but at least after 60 days I got a guess amount for my check and no idea what was deducted from it ...... All these wonderful things for 38 years of service to my country, and I am sure they will began attacking my benefits before my correct check ever hits my bank account....
Thanks ....

This could be a real boon for the taxpayers, get more Feds to retire and not backfill any of the positions. A win win for the american public

Just another subterfuge from OPM to divert Congress from the real problem. OPM is grossly understaffed (another instance of downsizing gone wrong in Govt!) with a glut of baby boomer govt workers in the cue waiting, waiting, waiting for service. My "calculations" took nearly a year, lots of letter writing and congressional inquiry, and LOTS of frustration trying to communicate with this conflageration of ill equipped bureaucrats with cobwebs and dust all over them.
