TSA is not perfect in fact they have along way to go but lets face it so far there have been no other successful terrorist attacks yet almost everyday we hear how another country has been attacked. Maybe just maybe they are doing something whats a little inconvenience compared to held hostage and having you life taking from you to me there are far worst things to fear than being afraid of being searched. Besides if the terrorist decide to blow up an airport instead of a plane those peoples lives are at stake too and for what they get paid a life is so not worth it

TSA confiscated the blackberry jam my sister made for me. Traveling in the agency's dime I presented my gov't ID. After thirty years including uniformed service overseas, grown gray in service to the state, I am presumed to be a terrorist?

The union wants Congress to authorize more workers (since that makes them bigger), but doesn't want them tested for performance as screeners. Management has no idea about how to measure performance, since it takes employee feedback on adjusting the pay system. God forbid they were to ask the customers (the travelers). A perfect, perpetual $$ machine, for all involved. Except the tax payers who foot the bill. By the way, will there be a "role model" for nipple ring detection?

I think that's key 1 day you wake up!!

Gee, maybe they should consider using a pay system that is simpler to administer and has worked well for a long time. Like regular WG and GS pay scales!

Pay for performance.. And we pay them??? Anything? Why?

The union (s) does not speak for TSA screeners and they have a vested interest in finding something wrong with whatever changes are proposed. Why not interview screeners directly and report their comments on the system and changes? They are the ones affected by it and their voice is the one that should be heard, not all these other talking heads.

I respectfully disagree with the comments from "Retired Air Traffic Controller". Having spent equal parts of a working life in both business and government (miltary, law enforcement and administration) I believe the job performance of individual employees can and should be measured. One problem with the GS system is by rewarding longevity versus productivity some individuals become complacent and lazy, knowing their pay will increase regardless of their performance. The real world-Nature-doesn't work that way. Pay for performance equates production and excellence with compensation. I want and expect to be held personally accountable for my actions. I like the idea of having excellence rewarded above mediocrity. Relating results to effort and achievement is the way Nature operates; therefore it cannot inherently be a bad idea. The massive challenge facing TSA is to find a way to implement pay for performance in government on a broad scale. This is a revolutionary undertaking and will take time to implement it effectively. Let's not fault a new agency for attempting to do that. Let's be patient and not write it off to an attempt to lower morale. I have watched TSA very closely and I am convinced that it as a new and large organization it is undergoing rapid growth and while being sincerely concerned about all employees. Nobody wants another 9/11, right? Lowering morale by design would be suicidal to the TSA mission. Pay for performance frightens the dinosaurs in government because it represents change and threatens their comfortable positions. So sorry. The rule in Nature is adapt or die. We soldiers learned that in Viet Nam and I continue to believe that today. We face unprecedented challenges to our nation by ruthless global competitors. Pay for performance, when it matures and is fully developed, can and will make us more competitive. Pay for performance will ultimately replace the GS system and will ultimately make a keener workforce. I welcome anything that will allow us to survive and prevail against the threats to our way of life. Finally, no security or law enforcement organization should ever be allowed to unionize and have the right to strike. The Air Traffic Controllers tried that once, remember? And, no, I am not a member of TSA. Yet.

Will TSA give the training on the body piercing removal or legality....See fedsmith.com article. We already have incompetent people in TSA on a power trip, and now you will make it easier. If you will keep promoting the fear of terrorist, have at least adequately educated and trained people in those jobs.

PFP can work if you have competent management. Pain is weakness leaving the body. I love this pain.. I will vote McCain.

God forbid that these people actually know what they are screening for. Lets see threats change, terrorists find new ways of smuggling stuff on planes but we don't want our CS to be able to adapt quickly. Is there any doubt while the public holds CS in such low esteem

It's too bad that TSA's non-screener performance pay has no transparency. You just wake up one day and realize that you were left out of the last round of within-grade increases. You don't know why, because your supervisor gave you good marks on your end of FY performance review. You deduce that upper management does not like you.
So much for accountability. Popularity with management should NOT play a role in performance pay.

Just another example of why "pay for performance" is a complete failure. It was designed to lower pay, lower morale and break unions. This is the way the Republicans run the govt. Shame on them. If you like this pain then vote for McCain.
