One thing i've noticed for a long time is that Government and contracts are heavily emphasis on Fair and Resonable (FAR) to their contractors and business owners they are doing business with. Why are not the same standard apply to hotel owners and operators, i.e. paying them the same price as they'd get for selling it to the general public. Why "government rate" constitute much much lower than their published price? If the prices are fair and reasonable then government travelers wouldn't have such a hassle every time asking for a government lodging price.

We travel to Chicago and Washington D C frequently and it is impossible to find a room for the per diem rate in these cities. I don't believe using contract hotels will help. Hotels need to offer up a few extra rooms at the per diem rate, or GSA needs to give more dollars for cities, like Washington DC and Chicago.

I hope that no one will be traveling to the Denver area in August and maybe before. With the convention going on I don't think that anyone will find a room for the per diem rate. Think about it.

I would like to know if there will be an increase in per diem rates for Europe which will keep up with the decreasing value of the USD?

I think someone needs to review the locality for the areas that are being affected by BRAC. I live in an area where a command is being relocated to. This move will not happen until next year, but area merchants and homebuilders have been anticipating this move for the past couple of years. As a result, the cost of buying a home in my area has gone up tremendously over the past few years; costing on average $40-$50k more per home than they would have cost 3 years ago. Someone needs to take a look at this and adjust the locality or else, the people being BRACed won't be able to afford to make the move.
