The "Force Re-shaping" that was brought on, to my understanding by Congress is what forced me out of Active Duty. I had every intention of staying in until retirement. I saw everyday the lack of manpower in most of the career fields BEFORE they started cutting people.
Let's bring those people back. Offer rank, bonuses, choice duty stations, or the ability to cross train and lets round out our Air Force with people already experienced.

The Rumsfeldian vision of the military took place long ago before he arrived. The Cold War gave way to the Gulf War which gave way to the Peace Dividend. That resulted in massive cuts in the military which bled it dry of quality personnel. To restock our armed forces, salary and benefit incentives were introduced. However, the Cold War has evolved into the War on Terror with wars ongoing in Afghanistan and Iraq and other military misadventures. Meanwhile, where are the personnel for these fight? And worse, where are you going to find fresh young minds and bodies to fight these wars? It looks like South Central L.A. has become the new fertile recruiting grounds for the military.

Years of following the policy of pushing otherwise qualified personnel out of the service has finally come back to bite the Air Force on its gluteus maximus.Pity.

Oh Sure, whey don't all branches of the military start whining how they need more recruits so they force the draft to be re-enacted. I agree with the other comment, call back those you let go and don't force those who don't want to join and may have other plans in the future. If the draft does come back, start forcing it on 18 yr. old and up females too since they are in the military. Better yet, end this worthless war and bring our troops home and you wouldn't need such a big military. Practice Peace or do what you have to do to get this war over with.

I wonder if they will bother to call back the hundreds of junior officers they basically kicked out with no benefits when this force reduction initiative kicked off. Good luck recruiting more people with behavior like that.

Why do top level officials always get forced into "supporting the current administration blabbity blah?" These folks worked their way up the ranks & now have to have their opinions in their field of expertise dictated by people who haven't the slightest clue. What a horrible way to run things!
