I recently graduated for Atterbury Job Corps in Edinburgh, In. While there I learned what it means to be a functioning citizen in todays world. Alot of people helped me to become somebody, and not the noth I was. I had nothing and J.C. gave me hope for a brighter future. This is a serious program for those who want something for themselves and for their families to be proud of them. Quit bashing them for the stuff that staff have relatively no control over. It's silly for someone to say that J.c. is bad if they have never attended.

I went to Red Rock 24 years ago and I am so thankful that I did. It was tough getting adjusted for a few weeks, but I met alot of nice people, got my GED and a trade, which I still work within the field today, making good money and advanced within the field I took in Job Corp, as well as met my husband at Red Rock and we are still married and happy to this day. Job Corp is like anything else in life, you get back what you put into it. If you strive for something better, it will help you tremendously in the years to come, if you go there with a "I don't care" attitude, then you walk away with nothing! As far as the "thugs" and stealing, wake up, you have that everywhere you go, however, it is all about choices, you as a person, have the power to make the right choices for yourself, no one "makes you swear or smoke", you chose to do it. That is the first lesson, be held accountable for your own decision you make. I am all for anyone attending Job Corp, as it really is a productive program, just apply yourself!!!

I attended Red Rock Job Corp. It may not be everything you want in getting an education, it is only what you make it. I can agere that people stealing from one another is a problem,I myself had things taken from me. It is however what you make of it.I'm glad the program was there for me 25 years ago. It taught me, that when I didn't go to class I lost money. Routine is important in the job world. That I had to keep my room and belongings clean,{Mommy can't pick up after you.} On G.I. night everybody had to work together. I could say it was a positive influence in my life.

I am currently attending JobCorp in Pittsburg PA and I agree with all the negative comments. But I also disagree. JobCorp is not there to babysit your children. It's there for your children to TRY to get a life. If she learns smoking then she would have done that when she left your house anyways. Thugs? Those are everywhere. What makes JobCorp special that it has More thugs than any other place? Try going into some major cities..They mug you for your shoes. There's bad things and good things about JobCorp and so too about Life. You either can buckle down and keep anything expensive out of jobcorp to keep stuff from being stolen, Tell your kids to actually Learn and quit goofing around(I have seen several people ust goofing off and telling their parents that jobCorp is the Bad people). I am going to Community College and not having to pay a thing. I get 3 meals a day. I can get a job and afford to become a non-resident so i don't have to live on campus. So to end this I say quit complaining and either Try or don't.. You could always live in your Mom's Basement.

Has any one gone through job core in McKinney, Texas? If the things posted here are true then there is no way I would send my child to something like that. All info is welcome.

I attended the Cleveland, OH Job Corps. I made alot of friends. I earned my GED,and I learned alot about growing up and taking responsibility for myself. Some students worked hard and took advantage of the help offered by Job Corp. Other students didn't care, they want the world to hand them everything. They don't want to work. In my dorm room I was given a large locker to put all of my things inand a lock and only myself and my room mate had a key to our room. If you don't lock your stuff up, then yes someone will steal it. That is true at any college in the world. The point is that Job Corps gives you a hand up. You have to choose to use it or waste it. I have a book published, "Endometriosis, Lighting the Path". Job Corp gave me the courage to believe in myself, my dreams, and to go for it. Thank you Job Corps, Angela Hankins Sachs

The Job Corps assignments are the problem. The assignments are the 'thugs.' The organizations that the Job Corps send the volunteers to work are not checked. The employees are not checked. The employees may be ex felons, doing illegal activity, etc. The assignment organizations and the employees the Job Corps work with need to be investigated and cleared for the volunteers.
The volunteers are young and new to the work. It ruins them when they end up working for a bad organization that is commposed of 'thugs.' The volunteers are looked at as not wanted because someone else could be payed to do the work.

I have to agree with comment one in a sense. This program left a really bad taste in my mouth. My daughter just left and I am very disappointed in the program. I needs a total restructuring in my opinion. It is a breeding ground for thugs. I pulled my daughter out because they would not even take her to a medical facility for a rash she developed at their facility. My daughter has great health insurance from me and just needed a doctor. The program also does not deliver on its promises. I sent my daughter there to get training to find gainful employment and after a year and a half I do not see any change in here skill set. The only skills she picked up was smoking and bad language.

This program is a joke, they are not seriously spending money on this program that allows kids to steal from each other, not accept accountability for their behavior, kids that spends more time outside smoking whatever they want. I have had experience in this as I have 2 nieces that attend the Springfield, MA Job Corps. Their items have been stolen and nothing is ever replaced and no investigation is done.

Job Corps is open to anyone regardless of income. You would think that $25K per person per year for part time work would be an easy job to fill. Just another waste of money
