Yes, and if it were your faith or ethnicity in the minority, you'd be praising the ACLU for their efforts in protecting your rights and liberties. No organization is perfect because they are all run by imperfect man. So you're blaming the entire ACLU and anyone "liberal" for a few PR screw-ups? That's mature.
I've read this proposal and it is true what the ACLU says about it being unfixable. Since when does the idea of having nothing to hide justify the corruption of those sworn to protect and uphold our civil and natural rights? This bill proposes the idea that a person can be suspicious of terrorism before a crime has even been committed. Think about that.

Let's not forget that unless it is a situation such as this (remember, this is a bill that could limit even a Christian's free-speech), they ACLU must be called in. In most cases where the ACLU is involved, there is an actual person who's rights were trod upon and they went to the ACLU to help them. They don't just go into most places and decide to stick their noses in.
Like the situation in Arkansas (I think) where there was a monument of the 10 commandments in front of a court house, a person from the community had attempted to talk to lawmakers about it and felt like their voice was being ignored. They called the ACLU to come in and help them.

That's our congress, working on a problem that doesn't exist. How about tackling something that actually needs fixing? I think we can all agree that the vast majority of Muslinms in the US are integrated into our society and not likely to become radicalized. Do we really need more government intrusion whipped up by a low percentage event? When did the US become such a nation of wimps. If you're so worried about the lurkers, you may as well stay home under the covers.

I would like to know, what liberties the Liberals have lost? They (and the ACLU)still protect minority rights and trample on Majority rights, use the separartion of Church and State to put down Christians daily. Heaven forbid we should speak up against a Muslim or a Gay rights to free speach. That's blasphemy. But trample on a Christians free speach - that's OK in their book.

Let's not forget that the ACLU was started by a communist.

As a life-long liberal, just so you know, I fear legislation like this. First, we know source of this activity and have for some time. Second, this kind of legislation coupled with the Bush administration's imperial actions and spying on domestic communications will lead to serious erosions of civil liberties. In the hands of a liberal leaning president with aspirations similar to Bush, the far right neocons and fundamentalist evangelicals could be targets and criminalized because of the hatred they espouse. I don't want either end to become the target of legalized governmental terror.

The ACLU and their ilk only want to defend their type of speech. But they want to be the thought police for those who disagree with their views. What hypocrites!
