Not to sound like a psychotic paranoid maniac like our uh....FOUNDING FATHERS...but ID's with finger print+DNA+ yadda yadda yadda or implanted chips will allow the government to silence dissent should the "need" ever arise. Havent we learned, visa a vis the Patriot Act, that when our government wants it will invade what we consider to be protected information about us for their own purpose. Why are all these people so willing to give up their rights to privacy for a false sense of security? You know when you trade one for the other you get neither. Drivers licenses to illegals should be a federal crime though, i mean isn't that considered aiding a criminal? Lets address the REAL issues without being herded like cattle into the slaughter house.

I would disagree with enact of the Real ID act. This would be a national id that is similar to the papers that was required to move about in Germany. In my opinion, a bad idea and a high potential for abuse by the government.

IN PA, in order to get a driver's license, you have to go to a PA Department of Transportation photo center with your application which you get via snail mail and your old photo driver's license. The only reason I can see for more extensive info is it can be a money making plan for the states, contractors, and more intrusion by government into our personal lives. Enough is enough, if you already have my picture on a card and I, in person look completely different, then My license should be rescinded unless I can show documentation that my facilal features are different due to an accident or various diseases.

Why not issue all US Citizens a CAC Card or mandate that ll us citizens must carry their Pass Port?

I like the idea of a national ID card. To accomplish this we need a national data base containing birth information. The military would input information, just as the states would, for children born overseas. NY State recently considered a Driver's license program that would allow people in this country illegally to obtain a license. Although I personally disagree with issuing illegals driver's licenses, it is a under the states jurisdiction, their right. If a state chooses to, so be it. But, since the state is involved aiding people who are violating U.S. law, cut U.S. funding to that state. As for non-ciizens with legal status in the U.S., they already have a card issued to them that meets those conditions. The only other thing I would recommend, is an angled view that allows the face and the earlobe, or a second picture showing the ear. Why not have the same system that issues ID cards to the legal non-citizens, green card holders, issue them to citizens. Let the State Department issue them. The technology is in place and the State Department already issues passports, so they already have the system in place to verify U.S. citizenship. This maintains control and does not pass the funding "buck" to the states. Immigration issues green cards and the State Department verifies citizenship and issues passports. The process and the means already exist, just combine them, replace the word passport with national ID card. Or is this too simplistic??

There really is no need for the id. The only need is for existing laws to be enforced. The ID will only give new opportunity for forgers to learn new skills, not stop actual fraud.

Said it before, will say it again, time for a federal drivers license! States rights are simply leftover colonies rights, as in the pre-Revolutionary War period. Standardization and encryption is key for this valuable form of ID. The states represent a mishmash of varying regulations. Some states permit only one license plate, others, like Nevada don't even require yearly safety inspections! Time to leave 1776 and jump into the future.

What is taking so long? And while your at it, make it global, and like a super CAC. That way we would also eliminate our illegal immigration problem. As a cop, I don't care who visits the good ole USA. I just care when they break the law,...then I want to be able to track them down and encourage compliance.
And if we take the lead on the project, our little contractors would make the money from the project. No, ID, no entrance, have no info on the card, just electronic keys (think of it as a very thin keybox) with access to DNA, thumb print, retinal ID, Facial ID, and RFID. Everything mentioned is already being done separately, I guess the contractors just aren't making enough money yet to put it together in one package. Too bad, cause someone will and when they do they will win the prize.

Noel, I, along with many others, especially those of us who served in the military married overseas, sometimes to other U.S. citizens and sometimes to Foreign nationals. Our children were born overseas. So you would void of marriages and make our children stateless people because the documents come from such dangerous countries such as Germany, Japan, and England. Stop being so afraid. Stop being so afraid it makes you stupid and cruel.

Why don't we just chip everyone and tattoo ID numbers on them and be done with it?
