Obey and the other complainers need a math class. Your article states $6.4 in a $471 billion bill or only 1.36 percent compared to the excessive spending of $22 in a $151 billion Labor-HHS bill or 14.57 percent.
The Legislators are historically late in passing the Appropriation Bills to fund the government, their principle obligation to the American People.

I generally support fiscal conservatism, but I feel the veto of the NIH funding bill is flat wrong and short sighted. This agency (NIH) funds critical scientific research which is especially important in the bio-medical area. Given the challenges faced by the U.S. with regard to increased international travel and illegal immigation, biological weapons, the research on the spread and control of disease ought to be a high priority, not to mention protection from bio-terror and bird flu epidemics. The health and protection of the American people is at stake. Moreover, our lead in science and technology in the world has been slipping rapidly and this does nothing to help that situation. Funding for bio-medical and other scientific research ought to be increased not frustrated. Cut back on the useless pork and ineffective programs.

I still haven't seen any media coverage of the defense bill which tells whether or not section 606 (which would guarantee military raises of ECI + .5 through 2012) survived the conference process. Does anyone have an answer?
