Why am I not surprised? Of course the marine cargo shippers don't want any security programs to slow up their profits. Of course the contractors don't want any attempt to screen their workers, that's unrestrained capitalism, which is evil. Face it, the last crusade is here, against Islam, which is by it's very nature a violent, repressive religion. Either we take the necessary protective measures, profit be damned, or we give in, period!

I don't get it. Don't contract employees have to go through pretty much the same background and security checks as feds do? I assume that during the federal background checks one of the checks is to make sure you're a citizen ... ?
I worked briefly as an IT contract employee at a federal agency and I had to go through the same background check routine as I did when I became a true blue federal employee. Both times -- as a contract employee and as a fed -- I had to fill out that really long questionnaire including giving personal references (that I learned later really were followed up on!), and get fingerprinted. The only difference between the employment process for being a contract employee and a federal employee was that as a federal employee I signed the oath of office.
Am I missing something, or does the background check not include a citizenship check?

Every system of record keeping involves a certain percentage of errors. The tradeoff in this situation is whether we are willing to inconvenience a certain percentage of individuals in return for protecting the country against the hordes of illegals crossing its borders for jobs. I say it's worth the inconvenience to a few.

The goal of this program is noble, and it helps to secure jobs for people legally working in America. We all know government programs aren't perfect. What we need to do is stop handing out welfare checks, to illegals and even our own lazy people, and use those funds to properly protect our country....let alone our economy.

I'm for the use of E-Verify, we need to start enforcing laws on Illegal Immigrants NOW, which should of happened a while back. Why don't we have a "800" number on which we can report these law breakers to "ICE". Why is it that our officials we put in office do not listen to the American Citizens of this country, instead of listening to the "Special Interest Groups" and "Lobbyist", with deep pockets and the Illegal Immigration Vote.

FYI Jones is my REAL name I am in favor of the computerized system it may have operational errors but it will not have informational errors that cah not be corrected and updated so what if someone has to come back to verify there information because of a computer gliche AMERICANS do it all the time but we have to validate any information that we use in a legal manner is it not so much more important in the light of the times that we live in to make sure that we are hiring people that are legal US residents and contrary to popular comments we DO HAVE ENOUGH americans to fill labor jobs the use of illegals is not good for our GOVERNMENT when these people dont pay taxes our economy suffers and how is it that my child can not get medical assistance but an illegal resident can come here and get medical and public assistance while our children go uninsured and I have seen this first hand
We as US citizens need to make our voices heard or we will soon be the aliens in the US
