The Homeland Security Department on Monday delayed opening an office that will provide satellite support to operations inside the United States. It's supposed to replace an Interior Department unit called the civil applications committee that has provided satellite support for U.S. domestic operations and law enforcement since 1974. Until the office opens, the civil applications committee will continue to respond to domestic needs, a Homeland Security spokesman said. "The civil applications committee continues to operate with the same capability that it has had for decades," the spokesman said. "We would work with the [panel], as we have before, to support local officials in the event that overhead imagery was needed for response or recovery efforts."
Democrats, you approved the money to open this office so what is really gained by delaying its opening? QUESTIONS: Is this office redundant? Is the taxpayer paying for two offices to do the same thing? Why is this office necessary when there is already one in the Interior Department? DHS will claim the center will surpass the present office. I have my doubt; only in COST. What happens to the people working in the Interior Department's unit the civil applications committee? Will they move to the DHS office or lose their jobs? Your best move would have been not to waste the taxpayers money by creating another office to do what the Interior Department is already doing!
The department already has received approval from congressional appropriators to reprogram money to open the office. Officials will not disclose how much money. QUESTIONS: What is the big secret? What is being covered up? Why is DHS afraid to disclose the amount? Is this the way DHS operates?
I'm so tired of this political foul play on Capitol Hill. Stop the childish behavior about which political party did what to whom and do what is good for the entire country your constituents will love it!.
