This really gives me great hope for the future of intel. No offense, but the old "super secret squirrel" stuff really needs to be approached with common sense. Sharing information across agencies is still a problem, even when we all of similar goals in the end!

I am very happy to read that the intelligence process is finally moving in the direction of its true roots - dissemination of multi-faceted, fused intelligence rather than dissemination of the "silver bullet." The "silver bullet" approach bread secrecy between the various IC agencies and entities that were supposed to be working TOGETHER to defend this country. 10 years ago, when the movement began to produce as much intelligence at the collateral SECRET level as possible, I had high hopes. Collateral level products allowed for the widest-possible dissemination while safeguarding sources that could be detrimental to our collective business. Let's get the politics out of the intelligence process, and I believe that Mr. Wertheimer can do just that.

The hits just keep on coming from Government Executive! Another fine, thorough, and balanced treatment of moving and shaking thinking in the realm of national security. I really like the breadth and diversity of this type of examination: online handling of medical records by LTC Fravell, boots-on-the-ground soldiering by Cpt Sallee, and, now, intelligence networking by Mike Wertheimer. Talk about Government sector journalism outside the lines! Keep it up!

of course one of the best for well over a decade in this is robert david steele - his fostering of o s s and continued leading analysis eclipsed and is an adjunct to this form of thinking - or analysis, depending on your compartmented jargon

The intelligence community already does a lot of collaboration with media outlets. That way, we can read all about it in the NYT and Washington Post. You can't get anymore collaborative than sharing it with the entire globe. Effective intelligence collaboration on the other hand, is not about socializing elitist gossip at Mary Kay parties. It is about crafting the perfect Google search term and publishing it in such a way that others can make use of it. Analyzing intelligence is all about seeing in plain sight what others can't see for the trees. Real intelligence has a quality of self-evident immediacy that is as compelling as the nose on your face. Anything other than that is astrology.
