In October 2006, I retired from the federal law enforcement system after 30 years, 26 years working for ICE, Customs, ATF, DEA, and INS. In addition, I have almost 4 years as a city cop, a PhD and ThD. I own and operate a small security businesss. Recently, I was hired to teach in South America by a private security military-oriented company doing business with the US government to train foreign police forces. I have never been in the military. I was treated like a "bag-boy," humilliated, discriminated, harassed, subjected to a hostile working environment etc. My contractor and boss along with his "Army Special Forces" instructors wasted an opportunity to have me teach what these foreign police officials needed: how to conduct criminal investigations, how to develop and culticate informants, how to conduct money laundering investigations, how to conduct effective interview and interrogations, and so on. Instead, the private contracting company conducted road blocks, house search and seizures by using military-style practical operations. When I expressed my concerns to my contractor, he reported my concerns to the other instructors and basically "gang-banged" me and insulted me for being overweight, old etc.
Realistically speaking you cannot have the military running our police forces anywhere in the world. This was a major disappointed for me. Will never take another contract with a military-styled security company.

I am shocked! Refuse all money to these contractors while being investigated. What chance does one person stand against the lies told by the contracting companies? If found guilty all the top officials should rot in jail in Iraq, no mercy. Lynching is too good for them. I cannot believe this greed, treatment of another human being is happening for the almighty dollar. May their souls burn in HELL after they rot in Iraq!

Does anyone want to hear what happened to me after I blew the whistle on staff who worked at the Federal Bureau of Prisons??

Scary stuff to read about someone being imprisoned and tortured without due process. I'm just glad this sort of thing doesn't happen in the United States of America. . . .

As to Bush's responsibility, he is the commander in chief. While we hope he has no personal interest in this rampant and irresponsible corruption, he has the helm. Shut down the war and that particular corruption will cease but that will not stop the stealing, just shift it to other areas. Americans need an attitude adjustment. We allow and even encourage this kind of profit taking in the name of "free trade". This corruption is neither free nor trade. The government hands over billions to contractors every year, some with oversight, some, obviously not. This constitutes a handout to industry from our pockets for which we receive little or nothing in return; not a good trade in anyone's eyes. Cut the size of government, stop meddling in the business of other countries and break the link between business and government. They should have no link at all. Business should conduct private trade and government should do as little as possible. Restore our Constitution to its original intent, to allow people to live without interference from government. We would then get along with our neighbors and have allies all over the world, our trade would flourish, allowing developing countries to develop and terrorists would have no reason to blow us up. Religion would flourish in the countries where people want it to flourish, in the form people in that area want. We fail in almost every aspect of our stated ideals. It's time we took notice and look forward by reactivating our past successes, not our failures.

Concur with Mr. Ketter. Mayor Nagan and Gov. Blanco have a lot of explaining to do. Most of the blame for the pre-Katrina "preparations" and post-Katrina "recovery" debacle can be placed squarely on their shoulders. I'm not holding my breath until the Dems put their feet to the fire.

How is it that Bush is personally responsible for everything that goes on in this war? I guess he sits at his desk all day long dreaming up these things and seeing that they take place. You Bush-haters need to get over it...it's extremely likely that no matter who sits in the White House, there's going to be abuse of the system by contractors. The President can't be on top of or responsible for every single thing that happens.

I can't wait until we start holding federal managers and agencies acountable for this same action on the jobs right here in the united states when they reprise on whistle blowers and include conspiracay charges for all involved on creating the retaliation plans?

I'm waiting for Congress to bring in Ray Nagan and the Govenor of Lousiana and get to the bottom of all the fraud that happened there. Haven't read anything about all the fraud that happened in NYC after 9/11. It would be nice to have some balance from this Congress

So, I'd like to hear from the hawks that continue to give this illegal war for oil their unqualified support. How could such a 'noble' cause result in such a disastrous outcome? Gee, who would have thought that throwing millions at contractors with little or no oversight would lead to these types of abuses? But the US military used to punish these folks? This is just the tip of the iceburg and anyone not willing to acknowledge the rot that this administration has nurtured is just plain blind.

Does this really shock you? Who sits in the White House? Republicans have abused our system since the 1990s and this is just the most visible aspect of it.

In order for Mr. Vance to have been held by the US military, some high ranking US military official had to be involved (if true). If that is the case, that official(s) have to be identified and subpoened. SecDef Gates should cooperate with Congress on this to the fullest. This is not a Democratic issue or a GOP issue. This has to be done ASAP.

It's high time that Congress took some action against these rogue contractors, and the Bush Administration for the contracting abuses. This administration has violated many our civil rights in the name of Terrorism. And, maybe just maybe some of the military leaders action need to be reviewed too. When these leaders they don't care how they have to get it as long as they get their way.
