Charlie:
You missed the whole point. The U. S. Attorneys were dismissed because they failed to prosecute what we now know were bogus charges of voter fruad. Shades of Richard Nixon using the IRS to harass his political enemies.

Let's see now.
During the current administrations, 8 US Attorneys were let go. All were appointed by the current adminsistration.
During the last administration, 91 US attorneys were let go. All of them appointed by the previous adminsitration that was of a different party.
Now which one of these has "politicized" the office more?

In your article you failed to mention former President Clinton's dismissal of attorneys nor his appointees plus I don't recall any article or the news media stories mentioning his (Clinton's) actions nor the number of firings. That information would give a clear view of each administrations actions.

I was just curious if the comments made about President Bush and his Republican appointments would also apply if we had a Democratic administration. There are generally much more lax rules for the Democrats.

This commentary obscures the point that the firings were pretty obviously done because the attorneys involved were NOT politicizing the justice they oversaw. You mentioned that "Some of the fired appointees might have fallen out of favor because they failed to pursue allegations of Democratic voting fraud vigorously enough," without pointing out that the allegations were investigated and dismissed as not worth prosecuting (or even not actual violations), and also without pointing out that other, more serious politicization of justice were involved.
Because the administration refuses to comply with requests to investigate how justice is administered, Congress cannot provide its Constitutional oversight and insure that the rule of law has been maintained without the taint of politics. No one says that the President cannot appoint fellow Republicans to the Justice Department. But the public needs to know that, once appointed, the attorneys are even-handed in dispensing justice a political arena. It is what we do not know that can harm the body politic.
