"Welcome to the 20th Century"? That's a pretty snide comment from somebody who probably doesn't know the first multi-mode, multi-nod internet was built by the military in 1962 to maintain command and control over SAC's nukes. ARPA proliferated that concept to Academic institutions in the 70's and the rest is history. The government did its job, the hard part. Don't welcome us to the internet, we invented it.

20 years ago as an active duty Navy officer I supported WHCA while working at the Defense Communications Agency Operations Center where we supported WHCA along with NASA, DoD and other national communications systems.
I presume WHCA has a backup system. We moved to VOIP at my current federal office last year. Works fine until there is a glitch in the Internet connectivity of course. We do have 2 landline phones here as a backup. Landline systems have their advantages.
