Dan B., you make valid points re the issue, but it might reduce possible accidents. Remember the idiotic baseball player who wanted to "sightsee"around Manhattan, and who crashed into a highrise building. The FAA is a largely useless agency (IMO), but a no-fly restriction is a commonsense measure that costs nothing, and would keep honest aviators away from these facilities. As to the missle option, why not? We already have Stinger misssles guarding the White House. Is that excessive? I think that a simple formula is: calculate the maximum negative impact(literally)on society, then construct pro-active plans to counter it. Forget PC, forget the stupid Americans who squawk about spending money on counterterrorism, this is the big time.

Does anyone not realize that it was illegal for Al Qaeda to highjack airliners and fly them into buildings? They violated every airspace restriction on the books. Airspace restrictions won't protect anyone. Are we talking "no fly zones" in America? We are tying our own hands and that is exactly the over reaction the terrorists hoped for. Let's have a reality check here people. It would require constant vigilance of in-flight fighters to intercept and shoot down intruders. Or do we emplace SAM defenses and shoot down lost Cessna 152 pilots? Besides, you can load more explosives into a Mini Cooper than a Cessna 152, but no one is talking about restricting Mini Coopers from nuclear power plants.

FINALLY! I've been waiting for someone to start seriously proposing proper protection for the nation's nuke power plants. The risk is there - and it is huge - far beyond the scope of 9/11. This seems to be a baby step, but its better than burying our heads in the sand. The nuke power industry would have us sleep this off, while they lobby to build more nuke plants near densely populated areas. Our enemies are watching.

Why does anyone need to fly around a nuclear power plant? Because the FAA is a worthless agency, unduly influenced by the aviation interests that they are supposed to be regulating! Wake up America, we're still losing.
