The Hatch Act should be abolished as it seems to make it harder for us Republicans to get government employees to work on our behalf - which we deserve. Of course, if/when the executive is retaken by Democrats, the Hatch Act should be re-instated as that wouldn't benefit Republicans at all.
In conclusion, I don't see anything self-serving in that argument.

Comment by Dr. White that Hatch Act should be abolished is typical of Bush Administration apologists. "Hatch Act" should be abolished, "Geneva Convention" is quaint, outing a CIA agent is okay, blah blah blah. Some people actually believe that this administration is above the law.

If a run-of-the-mill employee can be fired for sending a political email to friends because of the Hatch Act, then Doan should be fired for using a Government office for a political meeting whether she said anything or not.
Next someone should investigate the White House's use of a "political office" to brief political appointees on targeting their opposition in upcoming elections.

The Hatch Act should be abolished as it makes every Government employee less than a full citizen. In many respects it is a violation of our Constitutional rights, because it violates our right to free speech and limits our participation in the electoral process. It is currently being used as a weapon to silence Government employees so that no discussion of candidates or their positions can be discussed in a Government building even when on breaks. Government employees can't run for political office and remain in federal service, how is that equal, fair, and not a violation of our Constitutional rights. How many Government employees would be fine candidates? We will never know due to the Hatch Act. Every other citizen in society can run for office without having to resign from their job, Government employees have to resign, who has the resources to do this? If you don't win the election there is no surety that you will be re-hired at your old job. The Hatch Act makes Government employees second class citizens and this is unacceptable.

I don't get it. Did she ask about how they could help Republican candidates at the end of that meeting or didn't she? If she did, she was absolutely wrong and she should take her lumps.

This is all such an embarrassment.
As I wrote weeks ago when it appeared she was helping a friend with an inappropriate contract, she should resign.
Wolfowitz did the right thing and in the end the World Bank will be stronger for it. Administrator Doan as an agency head is a walking corpse and the sad part is she will continue to fight and to damage her agency but in the end she will resign or be fired.
But she is a small potato- that other walking corpse Alberto Gonzalez needs to do right by the Justice Department and also resign. Like so many others in this administration he can say he is going home to Texas for family reasons.
