Because loyalty trumps competence in this administration we have seen the most incompetent bunch of political hacks possible destroying every possitive thing accomplished in the last fifty years. The same mindset that supported Joe McCarthy has consistently tried to take over this country. Each time their arrogance causes them to overreach and the public has to smack them back under the rocks they crawled out from under. Then, a few years later, they crawl back out and start their blacklisting, fascist ways all over again. Reagans deregulating frenzy gave these white collar criminals the financial support they needed to take over the business community where they increased their financial ability to take over our government. This is the real reason for the rush to privitization. Just like their compatriot Yeltzin, who sold the soviet financial infrastructure off (at bargain basement prices) to a select conservative elite, we have the same thing going on here. Neocons gaming the system to profit off of your tax dollars, at your expense. Too bad you people who still identify with the Republican party can't understand that organized crime has taken over. King George I cornered the cocaine market and now King George II has taken over the opium trade. People who will manipulate you by playing on your faith are capable of anything. Please wake up!

I could not have said it better, Tom. If the President was involved in everything that everyone is constantly shoving down our ears, he would never be avilable for any photo ops. Get Real!! Wake up!! Be careful what you wish for...it just might come true.

Talk about your Hatch Act violations! Maybe Congress should stop bothering about the ground troops and start looking at the "commander in chief".

It must be something to hate someone so bad that you blame them for everything that happens! You people need to come up for air from all this political hatred and stop distorting everything just so you can bad mouth the President. Here is an idea, quit worrying about W and start worrying about Hillary!

Partisan politics isn't just impacting the US Attorney roles in this administration. The Department of Justice used to hire new attorneys "with the best grades from the best schools." I understand that this Administration started to hire new attorneys from specific schools with a specific political orientation. Grades, etc., no longer drive the choice but rather political affiliation. Of course, this is quite distressing. The rank and file attorneys at DOJ are quite distressed to see this huge change in hiring practice. The American people should be also.

I read this article to the end and an disappointed. I thought the article was going to be about how this administration has politicized the government and is destroying the professional civil service. Instead I get a history lesson on the White House's political office.
The real difference between this administration and other administrations, even very conservative Republican Presidencies, is just how deep they have shoved their political agents inside all agencies. I used to encounter GS-12 Schedule C political appointees whose missions were to spy on career employees, and even Cabinet Secretaries, on behalf of the White House and Karl Rove.
From Brownie at FEMA to a report changing head of Fish and Wildlife, to a GSA administrator who wouldn't know ethiccs if it hit her on the head, to Coal mining executives running Mine health and safety to a NAM lobbyest almost running Consumer Protection, this administration has placed its anti-employee, anti-emvironment, anti-regulation agents into every nook and cranny of the government. It has and continues to violate the Constitution of the United States. It has shown a lawlessness that takes your breathe away in its scope and a disregard for any consensus or opinion that could slow down its mad dash for illegal results. Besides visiting hospitals and intensive care units, I wonder if Attorney General Gonzalez visits cemetaries to gather body parts for his master.
Even mild mannered Ruth Bader Ginsburg has had enough in castigating her Bush appointed fellow Supreme Court members on their decisions. Or the two on the circuit court who don't believe in 100 years of collective bargaining precedent.
I don't envy the next President-- it will take the next 4 or 5 Presidents to undo this damage to our economy, our constitutional principles, our professional civil service, and this foreign affairs mess. I wouldn't want the job cleaning up this mess. Nobody I know has a big enough shovel.
