Shortage of equipment in Guard and Reserve units is nothing new. I was in a Reserve Armored Cav unit for awhile during the Vietnam Conflict. It had 2 or 3 deuce and a halfs, the 3 jeeps and not a single armored vehicle. When we went to summer camp at Ft. Irwin, we checked out tanks and APCs from the motor pool there.

When you waste millions on non fuctionaluniforms and then have a "Fashion War" tofund as each service tries to out dothe other with uniform changes are there rellyany surprises as far as funding short falls go. Why do we now have a combat uniform for the Army, Navy,Marines and Air Force? The "old" BDUs and DCUs were just fine..and the only difference between the services was on the left chest! And then when you look at vehicles; again the same disparity the Army buying "junk" in the form of Stewart-Steverson LMTVs instead of upgrading the much more versatile "deuce and a half" (M35 Series) supposedly becuse of age. Ask the mechanics which is more serviceable and durable and safer (on the road and in combat)! So, no surprises from where I sit....but despite it all and despite what the media says. We are making progress in Iraq and Afghnistan with or with the politicians!
