I wasn't able to find the calculators you reference of any use as they were non exsistent. The link leads you to the website for transition/HR asssitance. Federal times has much better explanations and how to arrive at the rough salary.

I would like to understand how Medical coverage works going into retirement. I have heard different stories how this works. Is the cost for medical coverage the same when you retire as it is while you are active service. Is it the same for FERS and for CSRS? Will the Federal Government continue to contribute and my rate be the same as active service members? This is a big question for my husband and I as to when we can retire.
Thank you for your assistance.

In the late 1970's, I carpooled with a coworker named Tom Miles, who touted the easiest way to approximate your CSRS retirement compared to your high 3 earnings amount:
It's your years of service, subtract 2, and multiply by 2
OR, simply put, it's "Years Minus 2 Times 2"
So, for those who've been steadily employed in CSRS over the years, multiply the high 3 salary by the appropriate percentage.
Example: High 3 of $80,000 and 32 years of service becomes:
$80,000 x 60% (32-2=30) = $48,000
