Return to Article: Officials cite progress on bureaucratic problems at Walter Reed

Most if not all federal health facilities are inspected on a yearly basis for Joint Commision (JC) accreditation. I would wager that Walter Reed was inspected by JC as well so it would be most interesting to see their report and see if they did their job. Being a VA employee, I can tell you that most facilities aren't prepared every day but spend many hours of overtime when they think they are about to be inspected. However the conditions described at Walter Reed are off the map when it comes to minimum acceptable conditions. Any and all who are responsible for inspecting and assuring acceptable conditions are maintained should be held responsible and should receive severe punishment. Keep a eye on the people at the top who reportedly lost their jobs. I'll bet they were allowed to retire comfortably or were reassigned at the same or greater pay. The big boys/girls faternity always protects these people.
