This is nothing new. A little late in the game though, seeing as how this problem has been running rampant for the last 20-30 years and all the warning signs have been staring us in the face. When the ability of the Border Patrol and interior enforcement met with bureaucratic castration, it merely aggravated an already burgeoning issue.
Put up all the cameras and hi-tech gizmos you want but until the teeth are put back into the laws and their enforcement, this nation will get swallowed up.

Why does the writer of the this article who is writing about preventing illegal entries of aliens into the U.S. have to use the phrase "border crossers" instead of the word used in the Immigration and Nationality Act: alien. There is nothing offensive about the word "alien." It's a noun, not an adjective. Political correctness detracts from the otherwise good story.
