Remember, my fellow Government workers. your pay raise will not cover the increase in your medical so basically we'll loose money again this year. Lucky for me, I have less than 2 years left till I can retire, otherwise I'd be looking elsewhere.

Based on the 2.2% offered this year, my net increase is $6.22 per pay period. Now, ask me how motivated I am to do outstanding work for my government this year. If I was making minimum wage I would have received a significant pay raise this year, how unlucky am I?

Any raise given by the Democrats will be offset by the taxes that they will inevitably increase as well. Given their past history, they'll give with one hand, while taking back with the other. They promise to cut spending, and eliminate the deficit, while also calling for increased spending on social services, not to mention the ongoing "War on Terrorism". You can't promise everything to everybody! Here's a novel idea - don't spend more than you earn. All Americans have to abide by this economic truth - why doesn't the government?

Dear USAF,
You do get a cost of living this year. NSPSS does not go into effect until next year. You need to listen to your leaders and read the paper. Even then the cost of living does go into the pay pool, however, you may not get an automatic increase if you perform below the standard that is very low. -

Do you realize when you publish cost of living increase articles that all the federal employees don't receive cost of living raises? Employees under the National Security Personnel System don't receive cost of living increases like other federal employees.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., one of the lawmakers who signed Monday's letter, also expressed disappointment in this year's raise, adding he hopes Bush will request a big enough 2008 boost to make up for the "unacceptably low adjustment" and show "how vital the federal workforce is in protecting and advancing our nation's interests."
What a crock! If he cared he would have amended the proposed raise! Also, if he cares he will introduce another bill to increase salaries across the board and not through NSPS for an additional 3 percent. Thus, NSPS would be locked into the original pay raise and everyone would get the 3 percent Hoyer should propose. Tom Davis and Norton should support a Hoyer amendment but I doubt we ever will see one!

Sounds like another move by Democrats and left-leaning Republicans to begin to pander to federal employees to keep and gain votes. This is totally an arrogant theory to say that federal employees deserve just as much of a pay raise as military personnel. The latter (and their families) stake their lives on their daily service and should get a larger pay raise while some federal employees are under unions, have salaries based upon locality, and usually only work a 40-hour (or less) week. I grew up in the military and I'm also a federal employee so I think I know something about the different situations.

You can't get blood out of a stone.
We are broke -- so if you add more money into payroll for 2008 you have to get it from somewhere. America needs to raise revenue and fast because our foreign projects are spinning out of control.
However this administration's idea of raising revenue is to tax the middle class employees for employer-sponsored health care benefits. I don't foresee any reality in being able to raise revenue for 2007 and 2008.
I don't honestly know why anyone who is beginning their career or even is mid-way through their career would continue for an employer who cares nothing for its employees. The evidence is irrefutable with regard to the issue of "employees are our most important asset."
Not for Uncle Sam. Now I have to fortify myself for tonight's program on how the government is going to dig itself out of a hole by continuing to dig the hole deeper.
