Return to Article: GSA chief at odds with agency auditors

I too wonder what Ms. Doan's real agenda might be. I've always believed that the internal IG is the commander's/director's right arm in spotting potential areas of concern, investigating when things do go wrong, and generally protecting the commander's/ director's butt from being blindsided by bad things happening in the organization. It would seem that Ms. Doan does not view her IG team as an asset but rather as the enemy. One needs only to look at the recent past to see that the problems at GSA are endless. Ms. Doan better step back and rethink her short-sightedness or she is going to find herself before Congress trying to explain, yet again, what went wrong.

This simply proves that the IG is not an independent audit group. To think that the IG is independent is ridiculous. We need an audit group that truly is independent of the agency they audit! The CFO audits should be done by private CPA firms such as PWC and not by the IGs. The private CPA firms should not be contracted by the IGs but should be hired by Congress through the Government Accountability Office. GAO also is not independent but it is far better than the agency IGs as far as independence goes.

I wonder what her agenda is. It is clearly not to maintain the integrity of the agency. I wish political appointees were hired to assist in the mission of the agency, not to aide in the agenda of the president, and not as payback for a previous political favor.
