Return to Article: Task force advocates innovation focus in military

Government over and over has proven itself not to be the engine of innovation. I don't care how much money you throw at it - government-run research does not produce results in relation to the money spent. NIH has never justified itself and cannot find processes or cures because that would mean its going out of business. For example, the press and the White House made a big deal out of the genome guy but Winters had to leave NIH to get the genome mapped -- the success was not with NIH! Likewise, the defense contractors and science community have no reason not to want more money for research because that is how they get pay and power! The military has developed technology to move to the next generation of aircraft so why do we have to keep pouring money into the F-22 and JSF when we do not need them? Kaiser built a ship a day during WWII because he was a good manager brought up in the private sector and not a government contractor or government worker who had to have everything written down before he could do anything.
Do not pour my money into government research!
