I'm not really against the illegal immigration at all, but I do believe that people caught who are illegal in the U.S. shouldn't be sent back to Mexico or wherever they came from, but are allowed to live here and are forced to gain citizenship like a normal immigrant would. They shouldn't be allowed to vote or have all the rights an American would because they aren't an American yet. If we let them vote for instance, we might as well let anyone else in any other country who doesn't have citizenship here, vote.

You people really need to grow up! This is a serious problem, not a joke. These are real people with REAL feelings. You people need to better educate yourselves before blabbering your mouths thinking you know the solution or even close to it.

Taxpayer you are probably right, illegal immigration might increase, but at least if we send them to Iraq, we don't have to build jails to hold them. And when they come back, they will not be illegal. Why bother with catch and hold/release? Save the money we are paying to do that and use it to help cover the cost of shipping them to Iraq. Caught one day, and boot camp the next. Two weeks later, Iraq. Oh I forgot, have to add a few weeks of total immersion English.

"When they catch an illegal immigrant crossing the border, hand him a canteen, rifle and some ammo and ship him to Iraq."
We did it with the Irish when they came to New York during the civil war and now we have them all over the place and they are legal! This may be a good idea but I bet it would not decrease illegal immigration. My bet is that it would increase illegal immigration.

Bring our troops home from Iraq to guard the border. When they catch an illegal immigrant crossing the border, hand him a canteen, rifle and some ammo and ship him to Iraq. Tell him if he wants to come to America then he must serve a tour in the military. Give him a soldier's pay while he's there and tax him on it.
After his tour, he will be allowed to become a citizen since he defended this country. He will also be registered to be taxed and be a legal patriot. This option will probably deter illegal immigration and provide a solution for the troops in Iraq and the aliens trying to make a better life for themselves.
If they refuse to serve, ship them to Iraq anyway, without the canteen, rifle or ammo.
Problem solved, and the solution is cheaper than a fence.

No matter what technology is used to prevent illegal immigrants from coming into this country, there will always be immigrants who find a way to circumvent the technology. Maybe, instead of incarcerating illegal immigrants, our country should use them as a resource. We have work that needs to be done that no American wants to do. It's often back breaking work in harsh conditions.
If an illegal immigrants are assigned certain work with barely more legal protections than animals, and if they don't get to choose where or with whom they work or for how long, maybe they would think twice before coming here. What if illegal immigrants were rented out to industry by our government to bring revenue into the government? What if they are cleaning up oil spills north of the Arctic Circle or moving rocks in the desert to build infrastructure?
If we make working here more uncomfortable than staying in their own country, maybe they'll stay home.

If the government wants to build a wall, they should check out the wall the Israelis have built between themselves and Palestine. It is about 26 yards or meters, straight up and down steel. Of course, if we needed to get across the border for whatever reason, natural disaster, we would be in a pickle as well.

Well, duh!!! Actually, the entire country has a tough fight ahead against illegal immigration. The only reason why Arizona gets top billing is because tough, law-enforcement minded individuals like Sheriff Joe Arpaio have the guts to stand up to the jello-spined twits running ICE in Phoenix. The situation there, as in many cities and states around the nation, has spiraled out of control due to lack of solid, knowledgeable, capable leadership, shameful placation of the whiney little special interest groups, and rampant political correctness.
The only way this problem is going to be stopped in order to begin a turnaround is to drop the hammer; take a tough stance on removals, and shut down the flow of nonimmigrant "visitors" coming in. The State Department, charged with overseeing visa applications, needs to make it abundantly clear to the abusive countries in question that the well just dried up. No more passes into the United States until they straighten up their acts. Coming to this country is a privilege, not a right. They have no right to demand anything from us. The problem is nobody in the Beltway is willing to make those tough decisions and stand by them for fear of watching their pathetic little kingdoms crumble.
