I take offense at the title of the article. It implied that people suffering from depression were not "Of Sound Mind" and that stereotype is what causes half the problems in dealing with mental health issues. Define "Sound" and then apply the definition to the writer, editor, or publisher of this newsletter and I'm confident it is no more applicable to them than most people I know with depression.

Wait a minute! Many of the depression and other mental health problems suffered by federal employees can be shown to have a direct relationship to their federal workplace. The health professionals at various federal agencies have known it for years. There are all kinds of statistics being quietly swept under the rug such as the number of federal employees on prescriptions or self medicating with alcohol and more exotic substances every day just so they can stand to go to their work. How does the percentage of federal employees that are alcoholics compare to the private sector? What is the suicide rate for federal workers? Why is "Going Postal" a common expression for losing ones mind?
The bottom line is that the cost for treating many federal employees should be borne by Federal Employees Workers Compensation. But, DOL-OWCP spends millions a year avoiding responsibility. When will the employer be held responsible instead of the insurance provider? How can there be prevention when the cause is deliberately overlooked?
