DDF, "America would do well by taking care of those who take care of America."
We are too busy being PC and taking care of those who do not take care of America.

This is an absolute disgrace to our hard working dedicated troops and federal civilians. Bush should be ashamed!! Congress and the Senate should not allow this to happen. We as employees should also be raising a big stink over this. What's wrong with us Americans anymore??? "DDF" great job!! "Taxpayer" I don't know what your job consists of and what your pay raises amount to but you should reconsider the statement you made. I guess I would just assume that you are independently wealthy and none of these cost of living items affect you!!

Please read the job description detailed in the above link by OPM. The fiscal 2007 raise should be at least 5 percent for Customs and Border Protection officers and all other agencies and associated personnel who daily serve, protect and secure our homeland, both domestic and abroad.

DDF Wrote: "How does my president expect to ever succeed and bring America out of this war, if he and his administration, deliberately disrespects the logistical work force required to defeat the enemy?"
I think the answer is clear. He doesn't. I don't think he has any interest in success, much less the competence to actually pull it off. Perhaps they need the war to go on forever, to use it as a campaign issue. Perhaps they're getting bribes from defense contractors. Perhaps they're simply stupid beyond belief.
This is the party that constantly babbles about "supporting the troops," but when the time comes to put their money where their mouths are, they don't bother funding proper armor, or medical care, or veterans benefits, or support personnel, or even keeping the salaries of the troops themselves from losing ground due to inflation. Who in their right mind would think these people care about what's in America's best interest?

Considering the rising cost of living, including gas, electricity, housing, etc, 1.7% is really insufficient. Feds and Service men and women simply deserve more for their work and sacrifice. While we'll all grit our teeth and stay on mission (those of us committed to the work and country), such a token-sized pay raise stings - to be quite honest.
DDF, you make a good point. America would do well by taking care of those who take care of America.

I believe the government is broke and broken. The pay raise for military and civilian employees should be equal at a negative 3%. That would start the process in the correct direction.

Bush's actions speak louder than words - the 1.7 percent raise wouldn't even pay for the $$ he and his rich oil buddies have stolen from the workforce this year. Vote the bums out in November!

What a slam! Billons are dispersed out of this country weekly and our Commander-in-Chief is concerned about providing $600 million more to the many dedicated federal employees that keep our country and his war machine running. Is this man talking out of both sides of his mouth?
"We are at war with terrorism"..."but let's not secure our boarders, as it offends the minority voice of world liberals at large".
"The War in Iraq must continue until we have defeated the terrorists and bring in democracy"...."but let's not adequately compensate those that ensure the War succeeds".
How does my president expect to ever succeed and bring America out of this War, if he and his administration, deliberately disrespects the logistical work force required to defeat the enemy? This should very disturbing to all patriotic Americans that long for their country to prevail for the generations ahead.
