Return to Article: Army chief says tardiness passing spending bills is costly

Schoomaker has no idea of how to set priorities to match the desires of the elected representatives and should be removed from his position. Hey man, it is not important that the leading Army brass meet in London or that you continue to throw money down rat holes for new equipment that does not need to be made -- at least not now! Also, why do you need all those troops that are not in Iraq and Afghanistan? Couldn't they be cut by 20 percent to 50 percent without undue injury to the war? I know that would reduce the positions for high ranking Army officers but that probably is a good idea given the congressional lack of funding for what you think is important!
Schoomaker needs a new career and not one with a contractor who will get him money from the defense budget that he already thinks is wrong.

I thought everyone had figured out the Republican way of governing the country.
They pass bills that make the little people happy and then they don't fund them.
Nothing new here. And by the way George always signs off on them and laughs because he then signs a "signing statement." The statement basically says he can do as he pleases, the Republican Congress is only doing what he wants them to do.

"Schoomaker cautioned lawmakers not to eat into the service's modernization accounts to pay for wartime needs, signaling he would not tolerate major cuts to its prized program, the $160 billion Future Combat Systems."
Excuse me, but when did we elect Mr. Schoomaker to decide how to spend our money? I thought how our money was spent was in the domain of the Congress. If it is not in the domain of our elected officials then we have taxation without representation and you know what that caused in the 1700's.

With all due respect, shouldn't DoD be preparing its budget to include ongoing operations in Iraq and Afghanistan? Such an action would allow DoD to avoid this "we need more money or we'll go broke" mentality. Just my two cents.
