You know what would be funny? If the union prevailed, got the data, and it showed the employees were actually overpaid. What would they do then? Most likely, there is a confidentiality clause in the purchase contracts preventing or substantially limiting disclosure; which is a customary practice in public sector and private. Their statements about the effects of the pay before it has even been determined are (typically) premature.

Why would anyone be surprised that the VA would not release any kind of data after their recent experience in this matter of data security!

Isn't AFGE just playing politics? Area pay rates for medical personnel are still subjective. So, the government will pay what it wants to. Medical personnel are in such demand in the non-federal market that skilled personnel can leave federal employment and probably do as well or better in the outside market. AFGE is just a flea on the dog anymore because it tends only to represent its political aspirations and its members go wanting.
Will the members actually gain anything from this?
