Does taking the supplemental retirement have any effect on the SS benefit that you would have received had you not taken the supplemental benefit? For example, right now I would get about $1800.00/mo at age 62. If I took the supplemental payment of $1350.00/mo until I reach age 62 would I still get the $1800.00/mo at age 62 or is it reduced by some % ?

Does the supplemental annuity benefit come from Social Security, or is it included in the retirement check? Will I have to apply for the supplemental annuity benefit separately from the VER, or is it automatically calculated with the annuity amount which was offered?

it says you receive a 10% reduction in your tsp if you take early out and withdraw it, but you can take an annuity instead, is the 10% still deducted from each annuity payment? also if the rumored usps early out were offered today I am 50 and have 20 yrs and 7 months service in but several years ago I was badly injured off the job and had to use a few months leave without pay, ive heard this is subtracted from my service time, does anyone know if thats true and is your service time figured from the day the early out is offered or the day you apply for it, it could make a major difference in my case.

Can the USPS pick which craft to give EO?, or they are rule by OPM laws?. Someone mentioned the law was changed to allow the PO to pick not only the craft, but also the district in which they needed to reduce the workforce.

I have 2 questions: I am CSRS. Effective 04/01/08 I will be able to retire with 35 years of Service and age 55. I plan to take $30,000. out of my Thrift Plan. I know I will be taxed for that year but I do not incur a 10% penalty, Right? I will leave the rest of my money in My Thrift account to incur interest. I have $1,000. in my Voluntary Contributions account. Can I withdraw this money Now before I retire? If yes, how do I do this?

When a divorce occurs prior to the two parties being of retirement age, how do you go about arranging for the retirements to be split 50/50? We are both federal employees (1 under FERS, 1 under CSRS).

I am a CSRS offset and have a total of 26 in service years. I had 9 years with the Postal Service and left took my retirement with me and then came back. I tried to buy back the 9 years but I was advised not to. Will this effect my annuity? Will I receive credit for those 9 years anyway? Should I go ahead and buy back those 9 years?

I'm not clear on why you reduced the SS benefit with your formula.

In response to: I believe you can roll your TSP contributions into a regular (not Roth) IRA and not pay any taxes or penalties if you are under 59.5.
Yes, you may transfer your TSP balance (or a portion of it) to a "traditional" IRA. Money that goes into a Roth IRA is "already taxed" money which is why TSP money can't move directly to a Roth. This transfer to a traditional IRA can be done at any age without a penalty.

In response to: ...you neglected to mention the reduction in annuity for a survivor benefit. If you go out early, it can be substantial since the amount of reduction is age dependent.
You are correct that electing a survivor's annuity can cause a reduction to your retirement benefit. It is not age dependent, however. Your retirement is reduced by approximately 10 percent (regardless of the age of your spouse). This provides a survivor annuity of 50 percent of the FERS annuity and 55 percent of the CSRS annuity if the retiree predeceases their spouse.
I tried to keep the example simple, so I did not include the possible reductions. To get a more accurate estimate of your retirement, request an annuity estimate from your benefits office.

In the story and the examples about early outs, you neglected to mention the reduction in annuity for a survivor benefit. If you go out early, it can be substantial since the amount of reduction is age dependent.
