I think this is a good idea, but I prefer utilizing a two-week rotation that meets annual training requirements. This would allow guard units to be available in their state or for other federal requirements elsewhere. My former guard unit (No Whiners!) participated in building the California/Mexico border fence and we worked successfully with other states' guard units.

As a current member of the Air National Guard, I am proud to serve our great nation. Allowing the governors to maintain control of their troops is critical to the success of this endeavor. When I deployed to Mississippi for Katrina relief, I saw first hand how the Guard is capable of successfully integrating, all of us under the control of our respective states. We were able to quickly mobilize and deploy and provide much needed services to the citizens of the affected areas. I am certain we will again serve a critical role in helping to secure our nation's border.
