Northrop Grumman Corporation, in court papers, stated this money would not be used to pay workers in the area affected by the storms. Why did we (taxpayers) allow this to happen? There are many people in this area struggling, some losing that struggle, to get their lives and home repaired. They had to wait and deal with insurance companies, why not a billion dollar corporation? They were not strapped for cash. They reported 30 billion in revenue (according to news articles) in 2005. Money given to Northrop could have gone a long way in helping restore our area.

The proposal for DoD to pay for this is preposterous!

There is no reason for any government body to pay any private contractor for a business disruption caused by a natural disaster or a war! Bush broke the mold by paying the families of 9/11 but that was a ridiculous circumstance that indicated he had no clue of how to act as president and Congress had no backbone! All the insurance claims those people received should go directly to the government to repay the cash disbursed.
This guy wants to pay for Katrina delays to a major defense contractor. That contractor is a private business and should have had property insurance and business disruption insurance. That is not the government's job nor should it be! This would truly rob the poor taxpayer and give it to the rich guy. This type of stupid action has to stop or the United States will quickly fall to third world status. I give it about 50 years at the current pace.

I have a better idea. Cancel all contracts with all the Mississippi and Louisiana ship builders for failure to perform, and especially Northrop Grumman.

This is another political fat-cat at work. The Navy should not pay one cent for anything and should let Northrop subsist on its own. This is nothing but a political trick to subsidize another contractor. The Republicans should hold fast on this one.
