How in the world can 800 or even 2,500 agricultural inspectors scuttle an election as important as this one to more than 20,000 employees? The 800 or so agricultural inspectors wouldn't even be GS-11s, if it weren't for the fact that they were upgraded right along with the inspectors that were combined with former Customs, and INS inspectors.
CBP management will not talk to the existing unions about anything until there is one union for them to bargain with. We have been waiting a long time to get them back to the table. There is literally little "quality-of-life" on the job today for CBP officers. The agency supervisors and managers are all going in different directions and have absolutely no concern for the health or welfare of the CBPOs. We need this election and we need one union to speak for us!

If anyone can help me, I don't quite understand what constitutes the difference between "professional" and "nonprofessional" employees in the vein that the NAAP is using it. These elections were scheduled months ago. I'm curious what the political value (there has to be something in this for someone) is of fighting this now when there's been plenty of time and plenty of notice. The NAAP doesn't seem to mind the bump made for Agriculture Specialists to GS-11 pay, or that NTEU/AFGE are fighting MaxHR and the other controversial proposals CBP and DHS have floated.

Get used to it, folks. I did, a long time ago.

About a year ago, a large group of "professional employees" at our installation were sent an e-mail from the commander stating that the local AFGE union had filed to have all of us made a part of the "non-professional" union. There was an indication that a national board would make the decision, and many of us began to make inquiries. Before we knew what had happened, our command had negotiated privately with AFGE, and we were "instantly" non-professional employees. I made several further inquiries, and really got into trouble for disagreeing with the process and the outcome. I wish I could have voted, and most of the other "previously professional employees" agreed.
