Hoelscher's chronological comparison to Einstein would make a lot more sense if he both possessed Einstein's intellect and were put in his new position to conduct physics experiments. Unfortunately neither is the case.

That's great, Greg, as long as this guy has Einstein's intellect. However, since he's a crony of Bush, I'm not holding my breath.

Greg in L.A.:
Your comments would make sense if he were another Einstein, but let's face the facts -- he didn't get this position because of his intellect!
That being said, you have every right to keep defending DHS and ICE in these pages, as you have done before. However, it is also our right to disagree with you.
By the way, please pass the Kool-Aid!

Actually, Hoelscher is just a little older than Einstein was when he conducted his most famous work. Twenty-eight is the perfect age for a liaison type position. The right amount of irreverence mixed with an idealistic commitment minus pre-conceived convictions.

What's all the fervor about? After ICE's Assistant Secretary Julie Myers' recess appointment expires and she departs to "spend more time with her family," young Douglas will be well groomed with the "requisite qualifications" to run the agency via yet another recess appointment. Unfortunately, by this time, most of the "adult supervision" within the department will have bailed like rats on a sinking ship!!

I cannot believe the American public should stand for this continuing trend of cronyism in the current administration. I think that putting these inexperienced, not-too-bright people in important positions makes it easier for the administration to keep out any dissenting viewpoints to what agenda they want to push forward. I intend to pass this article on to both my California senators stating my concerns.

The White House should be ashamed of itself. The government is filled with 20-plus year old political appointees at the very highest levels and in the most senior positions with absolutely no managerial or life experience to fall back on. These new managers are asked to manage huge portfolios and hundreds of employees for the very first time in their careers. This inexperienced political workforce is seriously damaging the government but I doubt the White House really cares. This is just one more project to kill the beast. No private sector firm would ever risk its bottom line by putting folks in charge of huge projects who are barely out of school. So much for the CEO President.
Loyalty is a good thing but putting people in place based strictly on political loyalty with no experience is organizational homicide! And it does a real disservice to these young folks, many with promising federal careers, who are simply flaming out. I've seen it too often over the past five years.

Not bad for a 1999 college graduate! Just another example of loyalty over, let's see, experience, leadership, skills . . . well, over anything else!
What's next for young Douglas, running for President in 2008?
